Learning with animal coloring pages
Animal pages are an easy way to sneak in a little learning. Sort the pictures by where the animals live (farm, jungle, savanna, forest, home) and talk about each habitat while you color. Younger kids can practice animal sounds; older kids can look up one fact about each animal and write it on the back of the page.
Want to keep it realistic? Look up a photo first and match the colors: gray for the elephant and hippo, black and white for the panda and zebra, orange with dark stripes for the tiger. Or skip realism entirely and make a purple giraffe.
Coloring tips for fur, feathers and stripes
For fur, color the whole animal in a light shade first, then go over the edges with a darker shade of the same color. On the zebra and tiger, fill the stripes before the body so the lines stay crisp. Online, use the fill tool for the big shapes and switch to the small brush for spots, whiskers and noses.
